Wage and Hour Litigation
May 20th, 2010 – May 21st, 2010
Be a part of the nation’s premier wage & hour litigation defense forum and ensure that you are prepared to manage the increased risks of wage and hour claims and class actions, defend against new and innovative claims, and respond to emerging regulations and evolving enforcement priorities.
The number of wage and hour claims and class actions across the country is simply staggering – in fact, wage and hour class actions are the leading type of class action nationwide. The only thing more daunting for defense counsel then the number of cases is the dollar amounts involved. Add to this the fact that the Obama administration has sent a strong signal that wage and hour regulation and enforcement is a top priority and the message becomes crystal clear – having an effective game plan for preventing, managing, and defending against these claims is more critical now than ever before.
American Conference Institute’s 9th National Forum on Wage & Hour Claims and Class Actions is your best opportunity to convene with in-house counsel from Allied Home Mortgage, American Eagle Outfitters, AT&T, Broadcom, Cisco Systems, Family Dollar, Intuit, Luxottica, TIAA-CREF, and Wells Fargo, as well as leading private practice attorneys and renowned judges, to get expert advice, insider strategies, and comprehensive updates on:
- Best practices for conducting self-audits
- Defending against the latest donning and doffing and off-the-clock claims
- Impact of Morgan v. Family Dollar Stores on misclassification cases
- Avoiding common mistakes made by employers and defense counsel
- Determining when to pursue alternative dispute resolution
This conference will provide even the most seasoned professionals with a cutting-edge comprehensive review of the industry. Do not miss this opportunity to learn from and network with industry leaders while obtaining an in-depth analysis of the current wage and hour litigation landscape for defense counsel.
Plus, add value to your attendance by also registering for the interactive workshops:
A: Fundamentals of Wage and Hour Litigation
May 19, 2010 – 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
B: ERISA Boot Camp for Labor & Employment Defense Attorneys: What You Need to Know About Benefit Plans and Fiduciary-Related Matters

Hatch-Waxman Boot Camp
May 24th, 2010 – May 25th, 2010
Hatch-Waxman Boot Camp
A Primer on IP Basics and Regulatory Fundamentals Relative to Small Molecules and Biologics for Brand Names, Generics and Biopharmas
A thorough understanding of Hatch-Waxman is absolutely essential to anyone working in the biopharmaceutical industry. This knowledge sets the foundation for the protection of small molecules and small proteins and provides the tools to comprehend an IP and regulatory framework for what lies beyond the realm of traditional pharmaceuticals. The highly regulated nature of the products which the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries manufacture dictates that the patenting of these products be closely tied to the FDA approval process. Anyone who works in the life sciences industry — or who even remotely deals with its IP — must be well versed in the regulatory components and IP subtleties that play such an integral role in the patenting of its products.
You cannot afford to be left in the dark regarding the interconnection of IP law and FDA regulation in these industries.
Garner the winning edge — boost your life sciences IP and regulatory IQ.
ACI’s Hatch-Waxman Boot Camp has been designed to give counsel and advisors to brand name and generic drug companies — and biopharmas — critical insights into commercialization and the pre-approval process, and also provide an in-depth review of Hatch-Waxman and other IP basics relative to small molecules and biologics. This conference will lay the necessary foundation for you to comprehend thoroughly the dynamics of the relationship between patent life cycles for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical products and business development plans.
Master the intricacies of the patent and regulatory framework for drugs and biologics.
A faculty of top-notch IP and regulatory counsel — all having a wealth of experience through working for brand names and generics as well as biopharmas — will share their knowledge on:
- The organization and jurisdiction of the FDA and the PTO and their interplay in the patenting of drugs and biologics
- How the approval process for drugs and biologics is connected to the patenting of these products
- Pre-patent considerations relative to R&D and patent portfolio and patent life cycle management
- How the Hatch-Waxman Act established the paradigm for market entry of generic small molecule drugs — and how follow-on biological products may add a new dimension to this schematic
- The relationship between patent and non-patent exclusivity
- The importance of patenting bioequivalence characteristics in certain drug products
- The ‘ins and outs’ of patent term extension under 35 U.S.C. § 156 and 37 CFR 1.710 – 1.791
Also, i n response to your requests, we have added a special Master Class on Follow-On Biologics which will lead you through every IP and regulatory consideration in this complex and impending area.
CCS Summit : Carbon Capture and Storage
September 13th, 2010 – September 15th, 2010
The capture and geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) is widely considered a viable mitigation strategy for the GHG emissions that result from large-scale fossil fuel usage. The Obama Administration is promoting CCS technologies with the establishment of a CCS task force, and $1 billion in DOE funding for three CCS projects designed to accelerate the deployment of CCS on a commercial scale. While these are positive steps in the right direction, the successful commercialization of CCS technologies depends on the government and private sector working together. Stakeholders from the power sector, the oil/gas and oilfield services industry, and other heavy emitters of CO2 need clarity on the legal and regulatory decisions that will influence decisions on how and when to apply CCS.
ACI’s annual CCS Summit provides a senior-level forum for the entire CCS value chain to meet and collaborate on an integrated approach to addressing the remaining hurdles to the commercialization of CCS technologies. Join executives from coal/power utilities, oil/gas industries, federal and state government agencies, oilfield service providers, technology companies and equipment manufactures, and industry advisors, as they share first hand strategic insights on:
- The impact of current U.S. climate change legislation on CCS
- Legal and regulatory issues surrounding CCS
- CCS liability issues
- The cost and economics of CCS
- Funding options for CCS projects
- Accelerating the availability of CO₂ transport infrastructure
- Using CCS to realize the economic benefits of enhance oil recovery (CO2-EOR)
- Ways in which to drive education and public support
The agenda will also include case studies that feature technical, economic and operational results from multiple CCS projects globally.
